We can find the POP 3 Plus in three complete kits.

The first kit is the POP 3 Plus Standard Edition, it is the base kit where we find: the scanner, tripod, calibration sheet, wiring, Magic Mat and markers, rotating base and a test figure… A very complete kit!!

image 28

We also have the POP 3 Plus Advanced Edition kit, which in this case in addition to all the accessories of the standard version and also a dual-axis swivel base, as well as its charger and a battery.
The dual-axis swivel base is a very interesting accessory as it allows you to rotate the piece at an angle +/-30º which will allow us to capture hidden areas with respect to the normal base.

All this in a quality compact bag where we also have other accessories, including the Magic Mat that we will talk about later and some adhesive markers.

Remember that you can find all these accessories and kits in the Revopoint store.

Performance and usability POP 3 Plus

With the POP 3 Plus, we will be able to capture medium-sized objects with speed and an precision of up to 0.04 mm, which is ideal for use in 3D printing, prototyping, automotive industry, industrial design, virtual reality, among others.

In the following video from Revopoint it will help us to see the first steps with this POP 3 Plus in addition to reviewing its commissioning and use documentation:

It is important to highlight the quality and design of components and materials of the kit that as always Revopoint offers in its products.
We especially liked the height-adjustable tripod system and where we can integrate the phone holder that is included in the kit.

During our tests, the POP 3 Plus has shown great performance in terms of geometry capture and scanning speed.

POP 3 Plus integrates with Revo Scan software which has an intuitive interface that allows capture, adjustment and post-processing in a quick and easy way.
Among the available post-processing tools we have options for blending, meshing and editing it. Revo Scan does not need large resources to operate, but depending on the project, having a powerful equipment helps significantly.
We advise you, once the scanner has been linked with our Revo Scan either using WiFi, Bluetooth or USB-C, as a first step to perform a calibration that will help adjust the IMU for optimal positioning… the assisted process from Revo Scan is very quick and easy to perform.

In reference to the capture modes we have two, one making captures continuously and the other capture by capture that we control with the buttons on the back. Depending on the object, one or the other can be very useful, for example if we have a piece with high light contrasts, the infrared system may not automatically adjust, the manual image-to-image capture system can be of great help.

image 14

During the scanning process, within Revo Scan, we will see a preview on the left side of the IR and RGB cameras where we can adjust certain parameters of these to improve our captures.

In the central part (2) we will see the 3D visualization of the object we scan and that will allow us to see the parts of the object scanned and its tracking. Interesting are the controls where, as a spectral analyzer that we can see in the central right part (3), it suggests if we are performing the process in the optimal position or we require some adjustment indicating if we are very close or far from the object.

Finally, on the final right side we can see the controls and capture options (4) with reference to accuracy, object tracking mode, object type or scanning distance.

We advise you to watch the following video with usage information and steps to scan your objects using Revo Scan.

We carried out different tests with objects of different sizes, surfaces, textures and the performance was very good.
We have to remember that using a 3D scanner requires a certain learning curve.

image 33

For example, transparent or very dark objects or with a surface with a high degree of light reflection can be a challenge and with the help of good lighting and scanning spray, or dry shampoo as an alternative, we can significantly improve the results.

image 34

Lighting when scanning is something very important to take into account as well, we usually carry out our tests in a controlled area where we can easily play with the lighting.
Taking into account the characteristics of the POP 3 Plus for the scanning of medium-sized objects, we carry out several tests outdoors where we have to be careful with the position of the sun preventing it from directly illuminating our scanner or producing glare to our object
Otherwise we got very good results.

image 35

The POP 3 Plus has a powerful flash that we can use in certain conditions such as for capturing texture and colors that helps to obtain a reference of the colors for our 3D object.

As we have already mentioned, we can use our scanner in a portable manual way, moving our scanner with our hand around the object, this is where we can take advantage of the 9-axis IMU power (with gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetometer) that together with the special algorithms will allow us to make a scan of the object quickly and accurately using this form of scanning.

We also have in this POP 3 Plus a new optical zoom that will allow us 1.5-2x to capture small objects in great detail.

image 36

Revopoint always pays special attention to usability and portability, the POP 3 Plus through its WiFi/Bluetooth connection we can link it with any Android or iOS phone using the Revo Scan application for these devices to carry out our digitizations of objects without depending on a computer. Something perfect in many situations.

Revo Scan, once we have our post-processed object, allows us to export to the most widespread formats such as PLY/OBJ/STL to later be processed in a more advanced way or printed on our 3D printers.

We highly advise you to check out Revopoint’s YouTube channel, especially the list of videos about the POP 3 Plus, where you will be able to find a lot of useful videos on how to use this great 3D scanner.

Final rating POP 3 Plus

To assess the need for a 3D scanner, it is usually advisable to take into account certain important aspects, starting from the fact that we are already clear that we need a device with these characteristics.

Price is usually a factor of high weight and that can usually affect the right decision, the POP 3 Plus has a very competitive price for features, focus and quality and is an option to consider.

Precision is another important requirement, the POP 3 Plus with about 0.04 mm will allow us to cover almost any type of project. In this aspect the POP 3 Plus performs great, it is in the volume of object scanning together with its processing speed that make it an excellent choice.

image 38

Like any scanner in this segment/price, they have their limitations, learning curve in their use and post-processing work to obtain certain levels of quality such as those we could obtain with higher-end scanners, and much more expensive. The important thing is to evaluate our needs for use.

Although it would not be a feature in itself of the POP 3 Plus, but we think it is relevant to highlight, it is the effort on the part of Revopoint to simplify and improve the user experience without taking away advanced features.

image 37

Revo Scan is a complete and essential tool when it comes to handling our POP 3 Plus that with its ease of use and power will help us complete any project.

If you are looking for a 3D scanner but the POP 3 Plus for its approach designed for professionals or amateurs looking to scan medium-sized objects such as furniture, human bodies, small vehicles or parts of these, figures, etc… we remind you that Revopoint has a wide range of scanners.
For example, the RANGE is focused on scanning medium/large objects… the MINI to small objects such as jewelry, figurines and other similar objects… we also have the INSPIRE also focused on medium-sized objects… and finally the one that we are in love with, the Revopoint MIRACO.
