A few months ago came to our hands the great Revopoint POP 2 with which we enjoyed passing objects from the real world to 3D to be able to “clone” them again with our printers.
Today we are going to present the Revopoint INSPIRE, a compact, affordable, and fast 3D scanner that allows us to medium-sized objects in a comfortable and simple way.
Revopoint, in case you do not know, is a company created in 2014 focused on the construction of accessible and quality 3D scanners that have several reference models in the 3D world.

Revopoint INSPIRE: fast and affordable 3D scanning
INSPIRE is the latest 3D scanner launched by Revopoint which has an accuracy of 0.2mm focused especially on its ease of use and versatility… Focused on getting started in the world of 3D scanning.
Currently, it is available through Kickstarter from August 16 to September 16 so if you are interested hurry to book yours because it is at an incredible price!! In the creation of this review already had more than 3500 backers.
In the following video, you can see a summary of its characteristics.
Going on to analyse its functions in more detail, the INSPIRE has a compact and robust body that with just 140 grams of weight, and its integration with the rest of the accessories will allow us to take it anywhere for use.
Especially useful we found the extendable and adjustable tripod in addition to the motorized scanning base. It also includes different surfaces with marks to facilitate scanning, as well as stickers that we can use to mark those more complicated objects in their scanning.
As for the more technical aspects:
- Revopoint INSPIRE can scan at a speed of up to 18FPS with an accuracy of up to 0.2mm, certainly a fast scan thanks to its powerful Dual Core ARM Cortex-A7 processor
- The inclusion of a 9-axis stabilizer will provide us with a stable and fast scanning experience, reducing errors in captures due to rapid movements or vibrations.
- The different marking and tracking accessories included with the kit along with the INSPIRE’s dual infrared camera and the Revo Scan processing software will make scanning tasks easier again.

Performance and usability
In the kit we can find everything necessary for the start-up and use of the 3D scanner, all the content comes in a compact and elegant box and it took less than 10 minutes to have everything ready to start scanning objects.
Apart from the contents of the kit, we can find accessories compatible with our INSPIRE to enhance and improve its use. Such as support for our mobile or a portable battery with up to 4 hours of autonomy:
The next step would be to install the Revo Scan application, we have versions for Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS, so there is no excuse for not being able to use our 3D scanner.
We have to say that we loved this new version of Revo Scan, currently v5.2, especially comparing the experience and use during our review of Revopoint POP 2.
Revo Scan is very simple and intuitive, but on the other hand, it has a set of tools to work with our scanned object that will be very useful. From Revo Scan we will be able to export our objects to formats compatible with practically most CAD applications, 3D modeling, or laminators … By listing some… STL, PLY or OBJ.
Once installed, we decided to scan the example figure included in the kit that helped us to see the operation of our INSPIRE, its accessories, and the Revo Scan software.
We were pleasantly surprised by the speed of 3D processing of the INSPIRE although with the example figure, it is relatively easy to obtain decent results. In a few passes, we already had our object completely scanned in a more than acceptable way.
Interesting controls, whereas a spectral analyzer suggests if we are performing the process in the optimal position or require some adjustment. Also, the simple controls, the assistants with the contrast and color images, in addition to a fluid interface, allowed us to get the basic options and settings from minute one.
Once we had an idea of the use of our INSPIRE and the software, we decided to start scanning other parts.
We tried to make it complicated with dark 3D pieces, which obviously gave us some problems, and opted to use a dry shampoo spray for hair, to give that contrast necessary for the scanner to do its job, the results were excellent.
We carried out several more tests, in this case with our 3Dwork pet which we were able to scan and reproduce again in our 3D printer.
Once we have our object scanned, we go to 3D editing mode where we can make adjustments to our object. In our case, we proceeded to close the openings that remained at the top and bottom.
Although it is not a 3D editor with infinite options, we do have those important to have a fully functional 3D object.
We would like to clarify at this point that the Revopoint INSPIRE has not been designed for professional use and has certain technical limitations both in accuracy and in the sizes of objects to be scanned.
On the other hand, and with a minimal learning curve of its software and some tricks such as the use of dry shampoo spray as well as correctly illuminating our objects we have been pleasantly surprised by the results, again, taking into account its limitations and cost of the equipment.
We advise you to watch this video of Revopoint itself with the whole process used as an example to repair a console controller, where you can see the whole process.
Final assessment
Is the Revopoint INSPIRE the 3D scanner I need?
Complicated to answer that question, which will depend on 3 factors from our point of view:
- Accuracy, if we need to scan parts that require a high accuracy of more than 0.2mm offered by the INSPIRE, then it is clear that it is not right for you.
- Scan volume, here again we can find another restriction since the INSPIRE can work with volumes from 50x50x50 to 2000x2000x2000.
- Price , this is where the INSPIRE will adapt better since its price is around half of other solutions
If the above factors fit our needs, we have to say that the Revopoint INSPIRE is a great option in price, its ease of use, and great results that together with the Revopoint experience will not disappoint us.
The Revopoint INSPIRE is an excellent 3D scanner to start and be able to complete our 3D modelling, animation, and 3D modelling projects and of course for our 3D printing projects.
In the event that we believe that INSPIRE may fall short… We advise you to review other Revopoint solutions on their website where the RANGE model may be suitable for scanning large objects at high quality and precision or the MINI model if we are looking for, in small models, the highest quality and precision.
Finally, if we are looking for something more versatile we have the POP 3 model which is the most balanced of the Revopoint models.
